Ridley Scott continues to dazzle fans of the Alien franchise with a return to classic
The charm of the Alien franchise is that it can be anything. It follows suit with its beloved multifaceted creature – the Xenomorph. Alien was a suspenseful horror-sci-fi hybrid that was unlike anything before. Aliens was a full on action adventure movie that was loads of fun. Alien 3 was a shaky thriller that could have been better. Alien: Resurrection was a silly 80s-like action movie with too much on its sleeve. And Prometheus was a clear cerebral sci-fi with interesting questions. While shades of Prometheus are present, Alien: Covenant successfully merges Alien and Aliens to create an ambitious film that will please all sides of the equation.
Life is a solid generic sci-fi movie that will satisfy the genre obsessed
At first glance, Sony’s new space thriller, Life, may seem like just another disposable Alien re-hash, and on the surface, you may be right. It plays like something you’ve seen before and will eventually see in May when Alien: Covenant comes out. However, even when Life doesn’t have the depth nor the craft of Ridley Scott, what it does it does pretty well.
One fantastic movie year is done, and another one will shortly begin
Looking back at 2016, there are plenty of films that deserve attention. I’m currently writing my Top 10 Best Movies of 2016 and let me be the first to tell you that it is a tough one. Now turning our sight to 2017, it’s looking more and more like a great year for movie fans. This list contains mostly blockbusters but don’t worry I still have my sight on smaller movies, which usually tend to be the ones I love more. Speaking of sight, I will be certainly watching closely at both DCEU movies that will be coming out this year. Wonder Woman and Justice League will try to make the DCEU relevant and a worthy Marvel adversary. While the DCEU had a rough year, horror movies had an excellent year. The Conjuring 2, The Witch and Don’t Breathe were standouts from this year. Some much-anticipated sequels are coming out as well as directors returning to what they do best. Nolan’s Dunkirk, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and Deadpool 2 are all movies that will need to deliver to the expectations. All and all, 2017 will be a blast and here is my list of the most anticipated movies of next year.
